Membership
The Mobile Yacht Club offers a variety of membership opportunities that are
described below. The Club requires the completion of a membership application
form, which must be obtained by a Club member. Applications can be obtained from
the Corresponding Secretary, Bill Haffner at (251) 421-2033 or e-mail
wchx@wchxrail.com, or at the Club from
Trudy Carlock. Each applicant must be sponsored by three Club members in good
standing before being posted for general membership consideration. After the
thirty (30) day review period for the general membership has expired, the board
will vote on membership acceptance. The first year of membership is provisional.
Certificate of Membership

A grandfather clause for those members who joined prior to 1974

Members 65 years old, or older, who have been a member for ten years or
more

Members who previously were Junior Members, have two years in which to
obtain a Certificate after becoming an Active Member
Certificates can be purchased either from the Club, from a member, or from
an ex-member. By owning a Certificate, you become a 1/400 owner in the Club
itself. In the unlikely event of a dissolutionment of the Club those Active
and Life Members owning certificates would be entitled to share and share
alike in any proceeds that were derived from the dissolutionment.

Classes of Membership

Active Members ~ Active members are those members who do not
fit within any of the classifications of other types and forms of membership
as set out in in Article VI of the Mobile Yacht Club By-Laws and are also
those members who must own a Certificate of Membership, pay full dues, pay
full initiation fees, and shall be entitled to full voting privileges, the
right to rent harbor space, to rent dry storage space, to use the club
launching facilities, to use the club boats, to use the pier, to use the
pool, to use the clubhouse, and to hold elective office.

Junior Active Members ~ Junior Active Members shall have all
the privileges of an Active Member, except voting rights, holding an
elective office, or the right to rent harbor space. Junior Active Membership
shall be open to those under the age of thirty (30) years. He shall have the
requisite period of time to pay for a Certificate of Membership as set forth
in article VIII of the Mobile Yacht Club By-Laws.

House Members
~ House Members shall have the privileges of the use of the clubhouse, pool,
and piers only and no other rights whatsoever. House Members shall pay as
dues seventy-five percent of full active dues and one-half initiation fee.
They shall be limitied to one hundred members at any given time. It is
intended that this class of membership shall be available to non-sailors or
persons who would not ordinarily apply for the benefits of Active
Membership.

Junior Members
~ Junior Members, whose parents are not members, may be male or female
between the ages of 12 and 24 years, and shall not be required to pay
initiation fees or own a Certificate of Membership. They may not rent harbor
space, or vote on any matter affecting the club, but shall have the right to
rent dry storage space, use the club launching facilities, the pool, the
piers, and have use of the clubhouse, except that children of members who do
not pay Junior Member dues are limited in their privileges to those of their
parents. They further shall not enjoy any privileges from which they are
barred by the Laws of the State of Alabama. Junior Members shall pay as dues
twenty-five percent of active dues, a child of any Life, Active, Junior
Active, Associate, or Non-Resident Member may be a Junior Member without the
payment of any dues until his 22nd birthday, or his 24th birthday if he
continues to be a full-time student. Junior Members whose parents are not
members of the club or are House Members of the club are required to pay
dues. Such children may join as a Junior Member so long as that child's
application is signed by a parent or a legal guardian, who releases the Club
from any liability and who agrees to accept financial responsibility for
that child. All Junior Memberships terminate at the said junior member's
24th birthday, and any application for transfer to any other class of
membership must be made in writing to the board at least thirty (30) days
prior to such birthday.

Non-Resident
Members ~ Non-Resident Members are those members who do not reside in
either Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Clarke or Escambia Counties of Alabama;
Jackson and George Counties of Mississippi; or Escambia County, Florida.
Non-Resident Members shall pay as dues fifty percent of full active dues.
They shall not be required to hold a Certificate of Membership or pay
initiation fees. Such members shall not have the right to rent harbor space,
the right to rent dry boat storage, nor shall they be entitled to vote or to
hold elective office. They shall have the right to use the club launching
facilities, the pool, the piers, and the use of the clubhouse.

Military Members
~ Any member of the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or
Coast Guard on active service and assigned to duty in Mobile or Baldwin
Counties of Alabama may be admitted as a Military Member. Military Members
may hold an elective office. They may server on various committees to which
appointed. A Military Member is not required to own a Certificate of
Membership, but shall pay full dues and one-third the current initiation
fee. This class of membership shall be limited in number to five percent of
the Active Members and is automatically terminated upon transfer or release
from active service.

Life Members
~ Life Members shall pay no dues nor be required to own a Certificate of
Membership. Life Members shall enjoy all privileges of Active Membership.
Any member of the Mobile Yacht Club may be eligible for Life Membership upon
recommendation of the board and the unanimous vote of the membership at any
annual meeting. The spouses and minor children of a deceased Life Member
retain all the same privileges of the club that they would enjoy if that
member were living until such time as the spouse remarries.

Honorary Members
~ The Board, by unanimous vote, may elect persons to Honorary Membership in
the Club. Honorary Members shall have the privileges of the use of the
clubhouse and a membership card designating them as an "Honorary Member",
but shall pay no dues and such membership shall expire at the end of the
fiscal year of the club during which such member is elected, but may be
renewed by continued annual unanimous vote of the Board. In order to be
elected to Honorary Membership, the person or organization being so elected
must have made a significant contribution to the welfare of the club, its
members, ifs physical plant, and the like. Persons holding any other
classification of membership may not be elected to Honorary Membership.

Provisional
Membership ~ There will be a one-year provisional membership period for
all classes of new members. Provisional membership will mature into full
membership at the end of one year, unless, upon re-evaluation, the board of
directors rejects the membership by at least four votes. Provisional members
shall have all rights afforded their particular class of membership. A
provisional member, having completed his provisional term, shall not again
be subject to the provisional member requirement.

Transfers ~
Unless otherwise provided herein, a member may transfer from one class of
membership to another class of membership only upon application to the Board
which shall determine if such transfer complies with this Article and after
making any financial adjustments as may be necessary due to transfer.

Resignations
from Membership ~ Resignations may be accepted at any time after one
year of membership in good standing and shall be effective as of the last
day of the last month of the calendar quarter during which delivered
provided that all amounts due the Club have been paid. Any resignation must
be in writing and delivered to the Recording Secretary of the Club.
Exceptions to this rule may be made by the Board in the event of death,
illness, disability or other good cause. No resignation will be accepted if
the resigning member is indebted to the Club.
